1. Background

Motorcycle frames extensively use welded steel tube structures, where weld seams, lap joints, and tube interiors are highly susceptible to corrosion. They also endure constant road gravel impact and muddy water erosion. Powder coating must provide 80–150 µm thick film and extremely high edge coverage while ensuring zero-defect outgoing quality. Traditional offline sampling cannot guarantee quality consistency; online quality control has become a mandatory requirement.

3. Solution Configuration

High-Penetration Electrostatic Spraying and Recovery System
Equipped with dynamic frequency conversion high-penetration spray guns, outputting a high-density charged powder cloud combined with high-volume air-assisted jets to effectively overcome the Faraday cage effect in tube interiors and weld recesses, automatically achieving backside wrapping. Powder supply uses a large cyclone and post-filter dual recovery system, achieving 95% one-pass powder recovery and avoiding powder accumulation on rough structures.

Pretreatment and Coating Reinforcement
A zinc phosphating immersion line generates a fine, dense phosphate coating, enhancing adhesion at welds and edges, with salt-spray resistance improved by over 50%. Subsequent deionized water rinses eliminate water spot defects.

Online Film Thickness and Defect Detection System
Deploy non-contact infrared film thickness gauges and multi-angle high-resolution industrial cameras after curing. AI algorithms detect defects such as misses, pinholes, runs, and insufficient thickness in real time. Non-conforming parts trigger alarms and are automatically diverted to the repair line, achieving 100% online full inspection and eliminating human visual inspection fatigue and missed defects.

Thick-Film Curing Process
A continuous gas/electric heating curing oven at 180–200 °C with a holding time of 18–22 minutes ensures thorough curing of thick films with excellent flexibility.
